When I am no better than my enemies…

Yesterday, I put up a video on YouTube of a parody song that I wrote that included sound bites from a certain YouTuber’s video where she spouted a lot of anti-semitic tripe (stuff like “The Jews are going to hell” and “you’re subscribing to Jewish people with Jewish teachings… they’re antichrist”).

This person is in the same group of pharissetical YouTube Christians that I referenced before in this blog.

The purpose of the video was to help defend some brothers and sisters who have been attacked by this group… a group that has found itself mixed with a AMightyWind (a Hebrew roots movement group that may, in fact, be a cult, in my humble opinion). The anti-semitism of this person, who is working hand in hand to defame Christian brothers and sisters online with AMightyWind, was too blatant to not do something (so I felt).

Just before uploading the video to YouTube, I felt the strong urge to NOT upload the video. But, I didn’t listen to that urge, which – indeed – I believe was the Spirit trying to guide me away from fleshly desire.

So, I uploaded the video, and it got the expected response (19 dislikes). I was okay with that. I felt the message had been received.

Then, today, the alleged son of the person in question posted a message on this video indicating that he was hurt by the video.

So, it hit me.

I’m being just like them.

Matthew 5:38-42

38 You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

And, interestingly enough, a brother in Christ sent me a message telling me off (gently) within minutes of the message from this person’s son. Thank you, N!

Needless to say, the video has now been made private.

Father, please keep me focused on you and not the things of this world. I’m sorry for not listening to you. I am sorry that I did not love my neighbor as myself, and that I focused more on my desire to “expose,” rather than your desire that I be a good witness for you. Thank you for your message to turn the other cheek. May you keep me ever mindful that vengeance belongs to you, and that I am a better witness when I show my joy in you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

In May, 2005, Rob was a secular, Jewish, thirty-something, Los Angeles, personal injury attorney whose idea of getting up early on a Sunday was getting up for the third quarter of the first televised, NFL games.

Thirsting on the idea of playing in a band for the first time in a decade, Rob finally accepted his neighbor's request to get up at seven-in-the-morning on Sundays in order to participate.

Eleven months later, his world was turned upside down by Jesus. Instantly, he began leading songs on the worship team and was the worship leader from 2010-2022.

Rob is now the worship leader at Calvary Chapel Malibu. He released his fifth album “The Author of My Story” on December 15, 2023, available on all of your favorite streaming platforms… and he is preparing to launch a new Christian teaching podcast called “Christ Supremacist.”
